Question

What is the reason I am unable to finish what I start?

Answer

I wrote about this recently.

Short answer: finish more to finish more. It's a habit based on using reinforcement/conditioning to train your brain to the payoff schedule of a project lifecycle, which is more universal than people realize.

If you do that, as you grow older you get better at finishing than starting. If you don't, you'll end up a project butterfly in deep denial about your lack of value-add, convincing yourself that your role in life is to plant seeds/cross-pollinate and move on. A kind of memetic equivalent to sowing wild oats (though in this case women do it too). A startup specialist. I dislike such people.

I believe there's no such thing as a "startup specialist" in the sense of startup-phases of projects, not companies. You're either full-lifecycle or you're not living fully. This is not the same as doerism. You can be an advisor or consultant who sees projects through to outcomes. You can be a visionary who offers different kinds of vision for different lifecycle stages. Some of the most important visioning work happens towards the end of projects rather than the beginning. You can be a connector who makes different kinds of connection through the lifecycle
