Question

What's the difference between UI/UX Designer and UI/UX Engineer?

Answer

This whole space of professions around UI/UX is ridiculously muddy, and the people within it are the ones to blame. Ironic, since clarity of interfaces between an entity (a segment of the labor market in this case) and the rest of the world is one of the goals of everybody doing UI/UX.

In other words, the UI/UX of the profession itself sucks.

People in the space want clear boundaries, perceptions and (let's face it) a status hierarchy. UX people get mad if they're confused with graphic designers because they want to project a perception that they outrank the latter.

So I'd ignore whatever titles people in the space give themselves, and deduct points if they are hung up on those titles and distinctions. Instead, if I were interviewing them for any purpose, I'd simply ask them what they like to do, and what they've actually done on past projects. There IS a residual problem in advertising for talent, but the good people have personal brands rather than resume brands anyway, and it is easier to find them via networking than by posting job descriptions.
