Question
How would I go about doing a new religion "startup?"
Answer
Starting a new religion from scratch would be very tough. Antiquity is the main source of legitimacy for religions. It takes at least 100 years for "lunatic cult" to get upgraded to "religion" for example. And another 100 for it to be regarded as a "beautiful faith with a rich history and traditions."
And why WOULD you want to start from scratch? In the small business world, it is know that franchises have an order of magnitude higher chance of survival than pure new businesses.
I was asked to answer a very similar question that you might find useful: How does one market oneself as a Swami?
Mutatis mutandis, this algorithm applies to most religions.
It does not apply if you want to start from scratch.
However, if you insist on starting from scratch, for a sufficiently large fee, I will ghost write some new scriptures for you, create some symbols and a prophet persona (you'd have to find and hire an appropriate actor) and even throw in a coffee mug for free.
By the way, you do need a mystical core. You can apply every business idea you like, but just like real businesses needs an invention or idea at the core, that comes from an Aha! experience, so do religion startups.
