Question

How do you come to terms with the fact that you're just ordinary?

Answer

This is a "be somebody" orientation. With this, even if you become the richest person in the world, win the Nobel in every category, cure cancer and bring about world peace, you'll still have the anxiety that's plaguing you now.

Extraordinary people don't set out to be extraordinary. They have an itch to "do something" not "be somebody."

Once you start trying to do something (anything) rather than be somebody, this question will seem incomprehensible. If you don't get what I am trying to say here, try reading Dr. Seuss' "Oh the places you will go." It is the simplest version of the philosophy I am recommending here.

From the question, it sounds like you're waiting around for something to happen to you. That's the key symptom that you're a "be somebody" person. To quote Dr. Seuss on this subject:

The Waiting Place…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite or waiting around for Friday night or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil, or a Better Break or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants or a wig with curls, or Another Chance. Everyone is just waiting.
